Abstract

The study aimed to identify the extent to which research on the COVID-19 pandemic published about education in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has incorporated certain principles of Islamic education, namely: the principle of lifelong education, the principle of self-education, and the principle of excellence. To achieve these objectives, content analysis was applied to all research on the COVID-19 pandemic published in peer-reviewed Saudi educational journals, totaling (24) studies across six journals. The study reached several findings, most notably: with regard to indicators of the principle of lifelong education, the highest frequency was observed in the indicator of integration among educational institutions in achieving the principle (48.6%), followed by highlighting the role of the teacher in sustaining education (19.8%), while the lowest indicator was providing evidence supporting the principle (0.9%). Concerning the indicators of the principle of self-education, the most prominent indicator was the role of the student in achieving self-education (51.6%), followed by the role of the teacher in promoting self-education (29.7%), while the lowest was the use of multimedia to achieve self-education (5.5%). Regarding the indicators of the principle of excellence, the most frequent indicator was integration among educational institutions in achieving the principle (34%), followed by the role of the teacher in fostering self-education (29.7%), while the lowest indicator was providing evidence supporting the principle (0.4%).
