The Role of Academic Departments at Umm Al-Qura University in Developing Soft Leadership Skills

Abstract
This study aimed to assess the role of academic departments in enhancing soft leadership skills among graduate students at Umm Al-Qura University. It also examined whether gender, academic level, and scientific specialization influenced students' perceptions. The study sample consisted of 341 master's and doctoral students during the 1446 academic year. Using a descriptive survey methodology approach and an electronic questionnaire analyzed with SPSS, results showed an overall average perception of departmental support. Critical thinking, self-marketing, and teamwork were rated average, while communication, emotional intelligence, technology use, research, and innovation were rated highly. Significant differences favored males, master's students, and certain specializations. The study recommended enhancing soft leadership skills through tailored educational and training programs, incorporating diverse methods to effectively foster these abilities.
