Requirements for Integrating Artificial Intelligence into the Professional Practice of Social Workers in the Medical Field in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

Abstract
The study aimed to identify the requirements necessary for employing artificial intelligence (AI) in the professional practice of social workers in the medical field in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and to examine whether differences exist in these requirements based on selected demographic variables. The study employed a descriptive survey method and collected data through a questionnaire consisting of six dimensions: legislative, administrative and institutional, technical, skill-related, professional, and cultural and social requirements. The sample included 268 male and female social workers employed in government medical institutions in Makkah and Jeddah. The results revealed a high level of need to provide the requirements necessary for employing AI in social work practice within the medical field, both overall and across all six dimensions. Statistically significant differences were found between participants’ responses according to specialization, favoring those majoring in social work, while no significant differences were observed based on city, gender, educational qualification, or years of experience. The study recommended, among other actions, developing a regulatory framework for the use of AI in medical social work and updating the Policies and Procedures Manual for Social Service Departments issued by the Ministry of Health to include a code of ethics for the professional use of AI in health-related social practice.
