Documenting the Cultural Heritage of Traditional Handicraft Engravings as an Approach to Sustainable Tourism Development with Application to Textiles A Case Study of the Jazan Region, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia"
Main Article Content
Abstract
The research aims to monitor and document the cultural heritage of traditional craft inscriptions in the Jazan region, revealing their aesthetics while identifying all information related to the region’s handicrafts, their sources, history, tools, techniques, and distinctive inscriptions, and identifying the dangers that threaten their continuity and cause them to disappear, by applying this to printed and woven textiles. To achieve this, the researcher used the descriptive analytical method and the SWOT analysis, which relied on in-depth field interviews as a basic tool for collecting data from craftswomen, relevant bodies and ministries, the House of Craftsmen and tourism experts, and the applied "quasi-experimental" method. Through the survey study of (42) specialists, the study concluded that: the inventory and documentation of the most important traditional Jazan crafts and their classification, as creative textile craft products contributed to their documentation with the widespread dissemination of Jazan craft heritage patterns and their sustainability, through the infinite possibilities of application of the products, that applied arts graduates have creative and innovative skills to develop craft products to keep pace with contemporary life, that the formative and digital experiments of design ideas can be adopted as a modern method for documenting the cultural heritage, and that there is an integrated and positive relationship between creative craft industries and sustainable tourism development.
