Verses popular among the general public: Collection and Study "Verses on Patience, Responsibility, and Trust as a Model"

Abstract

The significance of this study lies in its scholarly treatment of the phenomenon of the circulation and popularity of Qur’anic verses among the general public. This phenomenon reveals the discursive dimension of the Qur’anic text and its profound impact on cultural and social discourse, while also highlighting instances in which some verses are employed outside their original exegetical contexts. The research aims to identify the most commonly cited Qur’anic verses among the public, examine their contexts within the Qur’anic text, provide a concise interpretation that clarifies their authentic meanings, and analyze the ways in which these verses are used in popular discourse to uncover the factors contributing to their widespread prevalence. The study employed a statistical method to record and catalog these verses, an analytical method to investigate their exegetical contexts and meanings, and a critical method to evaluate and refine previous scholarly opinions. The research identified seventy-four reasons for the popularity of these verses and explored the patterns of their usage in religious, social, and cultural contexts. This contributes to a deeper understanding of the relationship between the Qur’anic text and popular culture, guides the reception of these verses toward their proper exegetical purposes, and calls for further rigorous studies on the presence of the Qur’anic text in public discourse in a way that preserves its sanctity and elucidates its original meanings.
