Lexical Collocations in (Al-Furuq Al-Lughawiyyah li Al-Askari): A Syntactic Study

Abstract

This study explores the concept of lexical collocations and their significance in language, highlighting their essential role in stabilizing linguistic structures, enhancing text comprehension, and facilitating effective communication. Lexical collocations represent fixed semantic patterns that contribute to precise meaning, minimize ambiguity, and enrich the Arabic lexicon. They help form cohesive expressions that reflect linguistic accuracy and reinforce common usages, thereby supporting semantic stability. In this context, Al-Furuq Al-Lughawiyyah li Al-Askari plays a prominent role in illustrating subtle distinctions between words. The author, Abu Hilal Al-Askari, relied on analyzing collocational patterns to explain word meanings, demonstrating how words acquire their sense through contextual usage. The aim of this study is to identify, classify, and analyze the types of lexical collocations found in Al-Furuq Al-Lughawiyyah, and to examine their impact on shaping the structure of the Arabic lexicon. The research adopts a descriptive, analytical, and inductive approach, surveying collocations in the dictionary, describing their forms, and analyzing their structures and semantic functions. The study concludes that the dictionary presents a variety of collocational structures, with verbal collocations being more prevalent than nominal ones. The rarity of conditional collocations is attributed to their nature, which makes them less effective in highlighting lexical distinctions compared to other structures.
